Shillington Although rectangular-shaped, this projector’s design is softened by rounded corners. It is primarily white with gray side panels. Two pushbuttons, a circular power light, and the directional control can be accessed from the top. The lens and an IR port intended for use with the remote are located at the front. A 3.5mm audio output, two HDMI ports, two USB ports, a second IR receiver, and the keystone correction ring can be accessed from the rear. The main power switch and AC receptacle sit below these ports. Air is forced into the projector through the plastic grill guarding its left-hand side, cooling the inside components, and then venting from the projector’s right-hand side. A five-watt speaker is mounted behind the grills on each side of this device. Accommodations to ceiling-mount the Vankyo V700W and the height adjustment screw are located at the bottom of this projector. This device utilizes an LED to provide a projected LCD image. Native resolution is 1920x1080P, and its contrast ratio is 1000:1. The projector is WiFi capable, equipped with Bluetooth 5.1, and supports Dolby Digital Plus. Resolution
Native resolution refers to the projector’s fixed horizontal and vertical pixel count. The supported resolution specifies which input resolutions can be accepted. The Vankyo V700W has a native resolution of 1920x1080P (FHD) and supports inputs of 576i, 576p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. The picture quality presented on the screen is partially determined by the media being played. A movie streamed at 1024 x768p is projected at the same resolution.
Brightness
The brightness of projectors is typically calculated in ANSI lumens. The 420 ANSI lumen Vankyo V700W is one of the brightest projectors I have tested, displaying a vivid image in lowlight conditions.
Contrast
Contrast refers to the ratio of the light reflected from a completely white image and a completely black image. The higher the contrast ratio, the more detail you can see on the screen. This projector’s contrast ratio is 1000:1. A projected white image is 1000 times as bright as a black image.
Keystone Correction
The keystone effect is the apparent distortion of an image caused by projecting it onto an angled surface. The best method to deal with this problem is to ensure the projector is pointed as directly at its screen as possible. The Vankyo V700W can correct this distortion digitally via the internal LCD panels of the projector. Total correction, using a thumbwheel located at the back, is ±15°. When applying keystone correction to an image, the number of individual pixels used is reduced, slightly degrading the projected image quality. This technique, while effective, should be used in moderation.
Bluetooth
This projector is equipped with bidirectional Bluetooth 5.1. A Bluetooth-capable external speaker system can wirelessly connect to the projector’s audio output. This system also allows an outside source, such as a smartphone, to play music over the projector’s speakers. Shillington Shillington
Audio and Speaker System
The Vankyo V700W is fitted with a pair of four-ohm, five-watt speakers. While these speakers perform well, they are not competitive with my subwoofer-equipped 300W JBL soundbar. Overall, this projector’s audio output surpasses its similarly priced competition due to its ability to decode and play Dolby Digital Plus audio. However, there is a drawback. While minimal time is required to decode a Dolby audio signal and send it to an external speaker, the slight delay may result in the actor’s voice being out of sync with their lip movements. I also tested the Vankyo V700W with my 90W Tribit external speaker, connecting the devices with an audio cable. The sound proved to be excellent, and the audio was in sync.
Brightness Tests
In the middle of a cloudy day, I switched off the interior lights, turned on the projector, and started to stream an episode of Grimm. While bright enough to watch, the image was faded, and much of its color washed away. Shillington I closed the room’s heavy drapes and tried again. While the image remained slightly faded, the colors were stronger, and the movie could be enjoyably watched. As the sun dipped dangerously close to the horizon, I repeated the experiment. The projected image was considerably brighter. Later that night, I performed my final test. The image was even brighter, and the colors were extremely vibrant. It was almost like watching from within a theater. The contrast of this device is good. However, I noticed that it was sometimes difficult to differentiate between the shades of gray in particularly dark scenes.
The Media Stick
This projector functions well with either a Fire TV or a Roku media stick attached. Once I turn on the projector, it conveniently switches directly to the main screen of whichever media stick is connected. Like most projectors of this type, volume must be controlled using the projector’s remote.
Ceiling Mount
A ceiling mount supports the projector in a stable position overhead. Once set up correctly, the projector’s focus and keystone correction should not require further adjustment. A mount of this type is highly recommended.
Projector Screen
I own a 100-inch pull-down screen. When comparing the screen to the light blue backdrop of my wall, there is little change in the projected image’s sharpness. Colors, however, were noticeably brighter, and the screen professionally framed the image. Shillington Shillington A 120-inch grommet-fitted screen is included with the Vankyo V700W. I will probably temporarily mount this screen to the side of my house whenever I lug my portable projector into the backyard to watch a movie.
Overall Assessment
While not appropriate for use in daylight, the Vankyo V700W projects a bright and well-focused image in lowlight environments. The projector’s native resolution is excellent, and its contrast is good. Shillington Shillington This device is equipped with WiFi, allowing it to mirror movies and games from a smartphone. While it is Bluetooth-capable, I find it best to connect to an external speaker using an audio cable. The Vankyo V700W’s package includes a 120-inch, grommet-fitted projector screen. If you add a ceiling mount and a media stick to the mix, you’ll possess an inexpensive big-screen system that will keep you glued to your chair every evening.
