The deck was composed of a metal grating through which the instructor had just poured and ignited a pail of oil. I cracked the hatch leading to the passageway and urged my Hoseman forward. He did so, inhaling heavily from his Chemox breathing apparatus. By then, black and impenetrable smoke had filled the mockup. I grimaced and tightened my grip on the D-ring that clung to my teammate’s back. As we dragged the hose forward, spraying a steady stream of water, I pulled the bulky thermal camera’s eyepiece to my faceplate. The screen remained blank. By the time we reached the fourth compartment, I was wet, tired, and discouraged. And then, a yellow and wavering blob appeared on the thermal camera’s display. I closed the compartment’s hatch, lodging it tightly against our hose. Then my Hoseman sprayed water into the room, starving the fire of oxygen until it sputtered and died. Today I am examining a smartphone that, among its many other features, functions as a thermal camera.

Design
One of my friends just purchased the latest iPhone, and she absolutely loves it. This device is light, powerful, attractively designed, and fitted with a bright OLED display. The iPhone is generally considered the perfect phone for the white-collar crowd, but no matter how well a device is designed, it cannot satisfy everyone’s requirements. The AGM Glory G1S is a rugged phone intended to attract the attention of tradespeople, engineers, hunters, fishermen, hikers, and photographers.
Processor
The heart of this phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G chipset which includes an 8nm Octa-core CPU running at up to 2.0 GHz and an Adreno 619 GPU. This processor is aided by the smartphone’s 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM. While my old Umidigi X could run multiple applications without a hitch, it downloaded photographs to my internet storage site at a painfully slow rate. The Glory G1S, which boasts a significantly faster processor, performs this function quickly and effectively.
Rugged Design
This phone meets the MIL-STD-810H resistance standard and can survive a 1.5-meter drop. It is rated IP68/IP69K and can take photographs for up to 30 minutes while immersed in 1.5-meters of water. The Glory G1S blocks 99% of dust, cement, and lime. Its outer case is composed of double injection plastic with TPU protection, and the surrounding edge of the touchscreen is raised 0.3mm. Two spare gaskets are provided to replace those covering the SIM slot and power input. A small hole in the corner of the phone allows for the attachment of a lanyard. Rugged smartphones are bulkier than their more delicate competitors. My old phone is significantly thinner and more than two ounces lighter than the Glory G1S.
Display
This 10-point multi-touch screen is 6.53” in size and boasts a resolution of FHD+ 2340 x 1080. Its LTPS TFT display is capable of reproducing 16.7M colors.
Sound
The onboard speaker is louder than expected and reproduces sound reasonably well. However, when playing music, I recommend that a Bluetooth speaker or headphones be connected.
Primary Camera
The Glory G1S is equipped with five different cameras, allowing photographs to be taken under a wide variety of conditions. The 48MP primary camera is fitted with a Sony IMX582 sensor and an f/1.79 aperture. Images recorded by this camera are crisp, colorful, and well-focused.
Selfie Camera

This 2MP camera is equipped with a Gcoreinc GC02M2 sensor. It takes good closeups, and the camera’s flashlight may be activated to provide additional light.
Infrared Night Vision Camera
The Sony IMX350 sensor and an infrared LED are fitted to this 20MP camera. It provides a decent grayscale image, even in completely dark conditions.
Thermal Imaging Camera
This camera supports a resolution of 256 x 102P at a rate of 25 frames per second. The image produced is based on heat rather than light, and temperature information is provided. While any volunteer fireman would love this feature, its practical uses are limited. During my tests, I ran hot and cold water into the kitchen sink and monitored the pipes below with the thermal imaging camera. If a hot water line had been partially plugged, this device could have located the blockage.
Overall Impression
If you are installing insulation, fitting a pipe, running cable, or digging out a foundation, this is the phone you’d want to carry to the job site. While the Glory G1S is a little thicker and heavier than its competitors, it is tough enough to handle being banged around, covered in dust, or dunked in water. The Glory G1S covers the basics well. It is G5 capable and includes features such as Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC. This smartphone is fitted with a fingerprint sensor and a laser pointer. Those interested in photography will be impressed by a camera system that includes the ability to take photographs underwater or in the dead of night.
